Photographing sharks at the La Rochelle Aquarium

The La Rochelle Aquarium is one of the most beautiful in Europe. The variety of species presented and the different aquatic worlds are exceptional. If you want to take underwater photos, without getting wet, this is THE site to do. Photos are allowed without flash for the welfare of the animals. But if you are patient, amazing animal photos await you there. In addition, it is a very playful museum and very popular with children. There is something to please the whole family.

Squares in series in the mouth of the Gironde

Les Carrelets are part of the Charente-Maritime heritage, but you will also find them on the banks of the rivers. Those bordering the Estuary of the Charente or the Mouth of the Gironde are very beautiful. They are the witnesses, still alive for some, of the economic wealth of the region. The largest concentration of squares are found in Meschers-sur-Gironde. Placed along the coast, they dress the white limestone cliff. They are particularly well maintained and still in operation. You will take very authentic photos.

Vertiginous photo on the Rochefort Transporter Bridge

The town of Rochefort is renowned for its unusual heritage, in particular its arsenal, its museum of old shops and its transporter bridge of course. Nicknamed the “Iron Lady of Charente-Maritime”, this bridge is a feat of 19th century engineering. Do not hesitate to machine-gun it from all angles, it is beautiful from every angle… of iron!

Low-angle shot of the Charente-Maritime lighthouses

If the lighthouses are typical buildings of Charente-Maritime, they nevertheless represent an unknown maritime heritage. Not all of them are open to visitors, but if you have the opportunity, do not hesitate to climb one of them. The view at the top of these giant guardians of the ocean is well worth the physical effort of climbing those endless stairs... which sometimes allow you to take amazing interior shots! For those who are not accessible, the low-angle photos are technically interesting.

Ornithological photo in the natural sites of Charente

Charente-Maritime is on the migratory route of many bird species. During migration periods, the early evening is a time when you can surprise this multitude of birds landing on the Charente lakes. This magical moment, with the sunset as a backdrop, is one of the dream shots of all photography and ornithology enthusiasts. Even outside of this season, the Charente Estuary, the Mouth of the Gironde, the Arvert Peninsula and the many salt marshes along the Charentaise Coast are favorite sites for wildlife photographers.
