Overlooking the Gironde estuary on more than 40 ha, the archaeological site of Fâ in Barzan, in Charente-Maritime, gradually reveals the remains of a prosperous city that played a leading economic role in the Gallo era -romaine, undoubtedly one of the most important ancient port cities of the Atlantic coast in connection with Médiolanum (Saintes) but also the rest of the Roman Empire.

Through its museum which presents the furniture discovered during the excavations still in progress and an outdoor visit route along the gradually enhanced vestiges (thermal baths and sanctuary), the archaeological site of Fâ invites you to discover the history of the place and better understand Gallo-Roman life. Daily guided tours and Gallo-Roman entertainment during all holidays in all areas. The average visit duration is 2 hours.

Interesting site and excavation site of some buildings in an old Roman town. Gladiator fights, talks about Roman times and so on. Very educational. Dogs not welcome. Everything is in French. Cheap to visit.

We visited here as part of an organised outing on behalf of the Caravan Club in association with camping Logis du Bruil. The visit was very interesting as much was explained to us by an English speaking guide, who was clearly an archaeologist as he had a passion for the subject. Not an expensive visit either👍

A great start, but a few improvements required. Pretty cheap for a family of 4. A bit tricky for those who don't speak great French. The pdf supplied doesn't match the information boards as you go along, so you rely on Google translate to understand the more complex explanations. Is also really hard to tell what is original, and what had been replaced. Clearer explanations would be good. The museum at the end was small but well laid out and interesting. Certainly worth doing to kill a few hours.
