    • Established in a good place on the basin afloat of the Old Port in the Gabut district, the Café du Nord is a La Rochelle institution. The restaurant is indeed one of the oldest places of conviviality in the city and remains today the only stone building of the famous "wooden city". A specificity that gives it a little more authenticity, a nod to the richness of its history.

With its terrace overlooking the water and its view of the towers of La Rochelle, the Café du Nord is far from resting on its achievements. Since May 2021, the restaurant has had a second youth thanks to an ambitious new team determined to offer local and seasonal cuisine in this idyllic setting.

On the menu, the choice is varied but limited, in order to maintain impeccable quality and avoid waste. The chef delights us with his original recipes : casserons à la plancha, grilled pork pluma with Pineau… and the wines are carefully chosen to accompany your culinary discoveries.

Oysters, mussels, razor clams, gravelax salmon and sea bass fillet will delight sea lovers. The tender and melting meats will delight customers who love farm products. Let's not forget the vegetables, perfectly cooked, which bring colors and flavors to the plates.

The dishes offered change with the seasons while keeping local products in the spotlight: open-sea oysters and seaweed from the Île de Ré foreshore, salicornia and maceron from the salt marsh, bouchot mussels from the Bay of L 'Aiguillon, wines, pineaux and cognacs from the Charente region...

Beyond its tasty dishes, the Café du Nord also offers regular meetings around culture.

to follow the restaurant's news, the best thing is to follow its accounts on social networks —> @lecafedunordlarochelle and of course, to eat there!

Excellent expérience and the food is great! Price is good and service as well. I recommend it if you want to eat for less than 20 euros per personne

I had a lunch with my kids (7 & 9 yo) and it was delicous. Kids had a menu with home made chicken strips, lemonade and ice cream for €10, I took a daily menu with a starter (snails :-)) and dessert (delicous french toast) for €19. Food and service was perfect, thought we waited for 15 mins for the bill at the end.

Sunday lunch, expecting to pay a premium, but no. Our waiter was friendly, charming and helpful. One of our group is a retired restaurant chef and having eaten here before, she recommended it. Delicious good sized portions. We are around the port many times a year and happy to add this to our go to list. we will bring more visiting friends for sure.

We were looking for a place to have a late-ish dinner. Our nose led us there, and though they were almost closing, they were happy to have one last table. The food was fantastic and the service...
