The island of Oléron is a real paradise: just a few minutes from the mainland thanks to the bridge, it hides a specific natural environment. We went for a few days camping with my family near Grand Village beach at Camping Le Maine ****. A judicious location to explore the island ... We are close to the beach, shops and cycling will be our means of transportation for the holidays. You come with us ?

Camping le Maine: holidays on a human scale with family

We chose a family and medium sized campsite, for the pleasure of beeing and doing activities together, on the island of Oléron. With 96 locations, we quickly get to know our neighbors and the kids met a few friends at the playground.

Although we have the right equipment and the tent pitches are spacious, we opt for a mobile home, for the pleasure of cooking easily good dishes. The gastronomy of the island of Oleron and the Charente Maritime makes us want: fresh fish, crustaceans, oysters in particular and the pleasure of melons, strawberries, peaches and other delights to cook on the barbecue. What a good news, there is one BBQ on the terrace with two sunbathing to take a nap ...

4 ranges of mobile homes are available, including one for people with reduced mobility (all the campsite is equipped to receive them). Our neighbors have motorhomes and caravans, there are many on the island of Oleron, it is a favorite destination for motorhomes. We all have space, because the grounds are large and delimited by bushy hedges.

Have fun during your holidays

The kids get on the bikes and wait for us to go and find some food. The shops are close (a few kilometers) and the island of Oléron is equipped with more than 150km of cycle tracks. You can go anywhere safely: beach, shops, villages, activities ... On the campsite, in the morning we do some activities: babyfoot, ping-pong tournaments ... There is also a "homeball", a structure with nets to play the ball without the risk of losing it on the neighbor's tent! Next door is a water play area that is very popular with children.

Enjoy cycling

In high season, the campsite offers family activities, inflatable games and lively evenings. Out of season, the neighboring villages will not fail to seduce you with their little bars, restaurants, cinemas, markets ... There are always things to do on the island of Oléron!

Tourism on the island of Oléron

To fill the refrigerator, we go to the small market of Saint-Trojan-les-Bains, it is a charming seaside commune, which proposes a cute town center, a port with trade and restaurants, as well as several animations. We will go later on a tour of P'tit Train of Saint-Trojan (a real one that dates from the second world war, on rails!) And will go to bath to the very beautiful beaches like Gatseau among the pines.

There is also the nearby Château d'Oléron market, a larger town, with all the shops we need and also all year round entertainment. The visit of the citadel appeals to the children!

On the island of Oléron, there is an activity that attracts us: take a boat trip. We look at different destinations and opt for a tour near Fort Boyard and the island of Aix.

In the evening, we relax and we improvise a picnic, before going to enjoy the sunset. The island of Oleron is famous for its beautiful sunsets and the glowing sky does us honor! We were settled down the port of La Cotinière, on a small beach in the bay of La Brimaudière ...

The next day, we spend the day at the nearest beach of Camping Maine, just a few minutes of bike: the beach of Vert Bois. And tomorrow ? We will see, there is still the whole north of the island to explore ... And you, what will you do during your vacation on the island of Oleron?
