A solidly built vineyard with patience and know-how

You do not become a winegrower in the snap of a finger and this land in Oléron, subject to sea spray, to the passion for climatic elements, takes time to tame... In 1889 Georges Pinard set out to farm a small hectare of land, on the side of La Brée-les-Bains, north of the island of Oléron. At the time, Oléron was not the island we know today, radiant, touristic and vibrant in the summer season. It is a small piece of Charente Maritime, which lives from fishing, shellfish farming (shellfish farming), agriculture and its natural charm… It is of course popular with holidaymakers, but tourism does not exist really at this time, one comes for its natural and wild environment. From one hectare bequeathed to his son Jean-Louis, who cultivates it, fines it and modernizes the work, we go to 40 hectares with Jean-François Pinard, who himself sells the farm to his son Maxime Pinard. He further stretches the family vineyard property to reach 100 hectares, while working for regional development by focusing on tourism, in addition to his work as a winegrower. It's a pretty saga, authentic and truly local, that vacationers can discover by visiting the vineyard.

In 1997, Maxime Pinard was 22 years old, he left his studies in oenology, viticulture and commerce when he took over the reins of the family business. An important responsibility, which he endorses with enthusiasm, having lots of projects in mind and desires! He works as a family, with his wife Isabelle and together they feed the cellar with their beautiful energy. Culture, harvest, bottling, aging in an aging cellar and distillation with 5 stills, it's a whole range of wine products and not just wines that can be found in the Maxime Pinard catalog!

Visit of the Maxime Pinard vineyard on the island of Oléron

The wines from the Île d'Oléron produced by Maxime Pinard give pride of place to fruity and fresh flavors. It is a quality terroir, which gives wines of great diversity, but also Cognac and Pineaux. Cognac is an eau-de-vie, made from fermented grape must then finely distilled with a double distillation process, specific to this production area! Pineau is a delicious, fairly sweet wine that can be consumed as an aperitif or with dessert. It is superb with melon or fresh sherbet type ice cream. It is made with grape must and Cognac, but chuuuuut the recipe is secret and specific to each producer...

To find out more, come and visit the Maxime Pinard vineyard! You will discover a presentation film and then we take you into the vineyard to understand the culture of the grape, then direction the cellar to see the production of the wine, its aging and of course, an essential tasting.

Visits are every Thursday in July and August, at 3 p.m. (reservations must be made, 2 euros per person, free for children).

Then take a tour of the shop, you will find regional products , and especially Wine, but also Pineau des Charentes, Cognac, Cocktails and unusual alcohols such as Cognac liqueurs (hummm!!!), flavored rosés, beer with Cognac, vodka made with grapes (a must-try for Vodka lovers), sparkling wines mixing grape juice and Cognac, in white and red.

Groups can enjoy a quality moment with a meal on site, from 20 people. There is a reception hall available for this purpose, which also receives weddings, family celebrations, seminars and conferences on request.
