I am welcomed by Katia, in this beautiful, fully renovated and tastefully decorated Charentais compound, and I settle in the gîte « En Tête à Tête ». The gite has a maritime theme, a large comfortable bed and an unusual but also practical layout revolving around the kitchen… straight away I spot the sun loungers on the grass, extending from the terrace. I am going to have a great time here!

Out of curiosity, I also visit the two other gites: The one next to mine, “l’Albizia”, is spacious, with a huge terrace and a garden, and a very large living area with an astonishing sofa. This gite can accommodate up to 6 people.

The third gîte, “L’Annexe” is located on the other side of the building. It is a beautiful residence, which can accommodate up to 4 people. L’annexe has a light and spacious living room and two beautiful bedrooms on the first floor. Katia has tastefully chosen the bed linen, the ornaments and the furniture, creating a really cosy atmosphere. A family or a group of friends (up to 12 persons) could rent the 3 gîtes together and meet for dinnertime around the big table in the Albizia gite.

Did I mention the spa? Put on your swimming clothes and let’s go to the incredible 120m2 spa. It is exclusively reserved for the customers of the gites. Take your shoes off, climb the stairs and enter a voluptuous world, dedicated to wellness and relaxation.

The extra large hot tub, set under a glass roof and surrounded by plants is waiting for you. Take the time to relax while admiring the view over the garden.

The infrared sauna, as well as the beautiful steam room are filled with stars and the essence of eucalyptus to remove stress of daily life.

Take some time to rest and unwind. Would you prefer the sun loungers facing the garden, or the tea corner, full of magazines?

Before relaxing on the massaging chairs or treating yourself with 1 hour massage that you can book in advance with a professional masseur, discover the sensory shower. There are 3 programmes inviting you to an aquatic and acoustic scent experience: a hot tropical rain, a fresh mist and a mix of sensations hot/cold; the fruity aromas and the play of light and water will amaze you!

Exiting Aigrefeuille, the Lac de Frace, is an entry to the nearby Marais Poitevin. Do you prefer the beach? No worries, go to Châtelaillon-Plage or Fouras-les-Bains, île d’Aix, or a bit further île d’Oléron or île de Ré. Discover the beautiful city of Brouage with its historical centre located approximately 10 minutes away by car, or Royan or Saint-Georges-de-Didonne…Fancy a stroll or some shopping? Go to Rochefort nearby or la Rochelle, Saintes …The Gîtes et Spa La Charmaie is really in the heart of the Charente Maritime!

The small town of Aigrefeuille d’Aunis offers all the facilities you need for your stay, local boutiques and coffee shops, there is also a very good bakery a few minutes away by foot. Note that you can rent one or several gîtes if you are part of a group or are travelling with a couple of families! For a final bonus, Katia is a potter. During your stay, you can see her working in her beautiful workshop and discover all her creations: plates, cups and decoration...Exceptional craftsmanship, delicate shapes, glazed or natural...I love ceramics!
