The National Gendarmerie Schools Command (CEGN) is a major entity of the French National Gendarmerie, and its headquarters are located in Rochefort, in Charente-Maritime.

Establishment in Rochefort and History

The National Gendarmerie Schools Command was created in 1959. Its headquarters have been located in Rochefort since October 7, 2004, in the former Hôtel de la Marine, a historic building built from 1671, which was once the residence of the Intendants and Commanders of the Navy, and even the Maritime Prefecture. Before Rochefort, the CEGN was located in Maisons-Alfort.

The CEGN's presence in Rochefort is therefore relatively recent but strong, making the town an important hub for the training of law enforcement in France.

Organization and Personnel

The CEGN is placed under the authority of a general officer and reports directly to the Director General of the National Gendarmerie. It is structured into several divisions and offices to carry out its missions, including a Command Office, a Performance and Operational Coherence Office, a Skills Division, and a Recruitment, Competitions and Examinations Division.

The Rochefort Gendarmerie School

Beyond the headquarters of the CEGN, Rochefort also hosts one of the gendarmerie schools under its authority. This school, created on July 1, 1999, is responsible in particular for the continuing and initial training of future non-commissioned officers of the technical and administrative support corps of the National Gendarmerie (CSTAGN) -. It is located on the site of the former Rochefort Joint Training Center (CIFR), mainly at the Sub-Lieutenant Aubry barracks.

The Rochefort Gendarmerie School also includes specialized training centers, such as the National Command Training Center (CNFC) and the National Center for Language and International Training (CNFLIG).
