Located in Charente-Maritime, the Paléosite is an interpretation center, considered one of the most modern in Europe. It is built on the very site of the discovery of "Pierrette" in 1979, a Neanderthal skeleton that proved the coexistence between Neanderthals and Homo sapiens.
The highlights of the visit:
- 3D reconstructions and scenes of daily life to break down stereotypes about Neanderthals.
- Demonstrations of flint knapping, spear throwing and fire starting.
- A site that blends technological interiors with wild outdoor trails.
This is a key place to understand that Neanderthal was far from being the "primitive" being we imagined, but rather an ingenious and sensitive cousin.
