    • The Jules Gautret Cellars of Siecq welcomes you all year round from Tuesday to Saturday to introduce your taste buds to the wine world of our two Charentes. Taste our wines, pineaux and cognacs to grasp all the know-how of the various local actors of our cooperative. From winegrower to cellar master, let Nathalie and Sarah guide and advise you in choosing the product you need.

To complete the tour of the region, discover our selection of local gourmet products.

The Jules Gautret Cellars of Siecq is a paradise for cognac and pineau. It is located on the road from Saint-Jean-d'Angély to Angoulême, at the entrance to the village on the left, arriving from Matha. Created in 1953 at a place called Liboreau, the cellar was transferred to Siecq in the early seventies. Entirely destroyed in 1994 by a fire, the wine-growing facilities were rebuilt in nine months for the 1995 harvest.

The Siecq cellar produces local Charentais wine, grape must for pineaux and wines for the production of cognac. The grapes are harvested from approximately 250 hectares, which represents 2,860 tons of fruit. The cellar produces 22,000 hectoliters of wine each year, distributed as follows: 30% red wine, 30% rosé wine and 40% white wine. The cellar has two conquets to receive the harvest. The grapes then descend into a destemmer which separates the berries from the stalk. Three pneumatic presses ensure the pressing of the harvest.

The grape juice is sent to tanks for fermentation. For red wine, an intermediate phase of maceration, from two weeks to one month, is observed before pressing. This step allows the wine to obtain its red colour. The Siecq cellar reserves a storage place for cognac. The large barrels contain 35,000 liters of eau-de-vie. As with cognac, the pineau aging area reserves several barrels of 350 hectoliters. Further on, you reach a vaulted cellar in which the oldest pineau barrels are kept.

The old pineaux have aged for at least seven years. The patina observed on the barrels testifies to the work carried out over many years, either for the aging of the Pineau or for that of the Cognac.

I'm so glad I participated in the Anti-Waste campaign 😉 ...and the Thalassa Rosé was very good. Unfortunately, it was already empty. One more reason to come back.

The Pineau was delicious; we're not really cognac people. Also delicious was the marsh coypu pate. A warm welcome from the friendly lady.
