    • The Jules Gautret Winery in Siecq welcomes you year-round, from Tuesday to Saturday, to introduce your palate to the wines of our two Charente regions. Taste our wines, Pineau des Charentes, and Cognacs to appreciate the expertise of the various local producers in our cooperative. From the winemaker to the cellar master, let Nathalie and Sarah guide you in choosing the perfect product.

To complete your tour of the region, discover our selection of local gourmet products.

The Jules Gautret cellar in Siecq is a haven for cognac and pineau. It is located on the road from Saint-Jean-d'Angély to Angoulême, at the entrance to the village on the left, coming from Matha. Founded in 1953 in the locality of Liboreau, the cellar was moved to Siecq in the early 1970s. Completely destroyed by fire in 1994, the winemaking facilities were rebuilt in nine months for the 1995 harvest.

The Siecq winery produces Charentais country wine, grape must for Pineau des Charentes, and wines for Cognac production. The grapes are harvested from approximately 250 hectares, yielding 2,860 tons of fruit. The winery produces 22,000 hectoliters of wine annually, divided as follows: 30% red wine, 30% rosé wine, and 40% white wine. The winery has two hoppers for receiving the harvest. The grapes then descend into a destemmer that separates the berries from the stems. Three pneumatic presses are used to press the grapes.

The grape juice is sent to vats for fermentation. For red wine, an intermediate maceration period of two weeks to a month is observed before pressing. This step allows the wine to acquire its red color. The Siecq winery reserves a storage area for cognac. The large barrels contain 35,000 liters of eau-de-vie. As with cognac, the Pineau aging area reserves several 350-hectoliter barrels. Further on, one reaches a vaulted cellar where the oldest Pineau barrels are kept.

The old Pineau wines have been aged for at least seven years. The patina seen on the barrels testifies to the work carried out over many years, either for the aging of the Pineau or for that of the Cognac, the oldest of which date back to 1995.

I'm so glad I participated in the anti-waste campaign 😉 ...and the Thalassa Rosé was delicious. Unfortunately, it was already empty. All the more reason to come back.
