    • THE BEE OF RÉ AT LOIX

A family-run honey farm based on the Île de Ré

Located in Loix, in the heart of Île de Ré, L'Abeille de Ré perpetuates beekeeping expertise passed down through generations. Managing 1,000 hives, Aldo, a beekeeper from a long line of beekeepers, dedicates his work to producing a wide range of artisanal honeys and hive products. His meticulous work showcases the rich floral diversity of the island and its surroundings, where the varied landscapes foster a wide variety of nectars.

The farm showcases the passion for beekeeping, through local production that respects the environment and the natural cycle of bees. Each jar of honey reflects the unique character of the Île de Ré terroir and the precision of the work carried out at every stage, from harvesting to bottling.

Honeys with character and varied flavors

The honeys produced by L'Abeille de Ré reflect the diversity of the Charente region's flora. Chestnut honey, intense and full-bodied, is distinguished by its woody and slightly bitter notes. Honey from the Île de Ré, sweeter and more tangy, evokes the scents of the sea and wildflowers of the Atlantic coast. Other varieties complete the range, offering a variety of textures and flavors to suit every palate.

Visitors can discover these products during a free tasting offered directly at the honey house. This friendly gathering allows them to appreciate the aromatic richness of each honey and to better understand the subtleties linked to its floral origin.

A complete range of beehive products

Beyond honey, L'Abeille de Ré offers a wide range of products made from the treasures of the hive. Visitors will find natural cosmetics based on beeswax, propolis, royal jelly, and pollen, renowned for their moisturizing and protective properties. Handcrafted beeswax candles, soaps, gingerbread, caramels, and other confectionery round out the selection, making the shop a true haven of discovery centered around honey.

Each product showcases a handcrafted approach, favoring natural and local raw materials. The honey house aims to promote the work of bees while raising public awareness of their essential role in biodiversity.

Guided tours and workshops for young and old

The L'Abeille de Ré Honey Farm welcomes visitors for guided tours that offer a glimpse into the world of bees and the work of the beekeeper. These tours, offered Monday through Friday at 4:30 pm, provide an educational approach accessible to all. Information panels are also available for those who prefer a self-guided visit.

For younger children, workshops are organized every morning during school holidays, from 10:30 am to 12 pm. These activities include a fun visit, a sweet treat, a candle-making workshop, and sometimes honey extraction, depending on the time of year. These sessions allow children to learn while having fun and developing their curiosity about the natural world.

A place for sharing and discovery on the island of Ré

The team at L'Abeille de Ré welcomes visitors year-round, with extended hours during peak season. From April to September, the honey house is open daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. From October to March, it welcomes visitors Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, as well as on Sundays during school holidays. Themed events are regularly offered for Easter, Halloween, and Christmas, creating festive opportunities to discover beekeeping products and techniques.

To discover within a 30 km radius of Loix

Around Loix, visitors can extend their exploration of the island through numerous activities. Cycle paths lead to Ars-en-Ré, listed among the most beautiful villages in France, or to Saint-Martin-de-Ré, where Vauban's fortifications recall the island's maritime history. The nearby salt marshes bear witness to the link between nature and tradition, as do the local producers of salt, goat cheese, and Ré wines.

Hiking enthusiasts will appreciate the trails winding between pine forests and fine sandy beaches, while the markets of La Couarde-sur-Mer or Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré offer the chance to meet the island's artisans and producers. Less than 30 km away, the Île de Ré bridge provides access to La Rochelle, whose old port, museums, and gourmet food halls offer a vibrant glimpse into the Charente region's heritage.

Thus, a visit to L'Abeille de Ré in Loix is part of a complete discovery of the territory, combining local gastronomy, natural heritage and artisanal traditions.

Delicious honey with fleur de sel from Île de Ré. The staff were very friendly and gave us a warm welcome. The honey pastries made on-site are delicious (the wonderful aroma fills the entire shop). There's a wide selection of honey-based products (honey, honey candies, beeswax candles, mead, etc.). I highly recommend this shop if you're visiting Île de Ré.

We wanted to buy a few pot of honey for breakfast and so happy to find one in the island. They have fairly priced honey pots but the others were a little overpriced.
