About the Hôtel des Francs Garçons
In 1976, three of the medieval houses that make it up were in a dangerous state of ruin without roofs or floors, condemned to be demolished.
The young architect, Hervé Audinet, and his wife Florence, settled in 1964 in the family home on rue du marché; they do not wish to see these venerable medieval houses disappear at the foot of the Romanesque church of Saint-Sauvant.
He subsequently acquired the property and renovated it in 2005 in a very contemporary and stylish manner. The space features oak floors, natural stone paving and walls, and a decor composed of unusual objects brought back from his travels. The successful gamble of the Design Hotel des Francs Garçons lies in having respected the ancient structure of the 12th-century building, located in a medieval village, while incorporating a timeless interior design by renowned designers.
At the time of its creation, ten architects lived or worked in Saint-Sauvant. Each room was therefore named after them, and each of them participated in the decoration of their room through choices of colors, original drawings, or objects of their own creation.
In twenty years, more than sixty thousand travelers from all walks of life have stayed at the hotel.
