Elegant hotel in historical surroundings. Those who know Mercure know that there can be positive surprises. This hotel is one of the most impressive examples of how a hotel in a historic building can create a magical mix of modern and antique from the given constraints. The rooms and their furnishings are a perfect mix of modern materials and historic colors. The restaurant and bar offer international standards in the surroundings. The breakfast is adapted to the needs of international customers and also offers regional specialties. The only downer is the Internet connection, which is always a headache.

Unforgettable stay in an outstanding setting. Located within the walls of the former Corderie's armoury, the hotel is intimately connected to its past. While history fans will be touched by the colour code brilliantly inspired by the uniforms of French Navy officers, travellers simply seeking a peaceful haven will not feel overwhelmed by the weight of history in this fully modernised and renovated building. The rooms are spacious and include all indispensable commodities - with the thick mattresses being a delightful bonus. As for eating, the hotel restaurant, La Corderie Royale, offers fine dining, featuring food of irreproachable quality with ingredients sourced from the Charente-Maritime département, and there are good menu options that do not come out excessively expensive. For the morning, the continental breakfast buffet proposed in a cosy room adjacent to the bar has delicious sweet and savoury options, and the fresh viennoiseries are delicious even on French standards! Finally, the staff of this hotel deserves a special appraisal. Receptionists and the cleaning crew are extremely respectful and caring towards each guest.

Good hotel. In a great location, with open grounds & on the river & harbour. Very relaxing place to stay. I'm here working & I plan to send my wife out, who will enjoy the relaxing & scenic area that the hotel offers. You won't be disappointed.
