    • Nomadic Hooves in Saint-Georges-d'Oléron on the Isle of Oléron – Equestrian Experiences Between Nature and Local Traditions

Horse riding in the heart of the island of Oléron

Located in Saint-Georges-d'Oléron, on the Île d'Oléron, Les Sabots Nomades offers equestrian experiences focused on discovering mules and donkeys in a natural environment typical of the Charente coastline. This activity is part of a nature tourism approach, accessible to a wide audience, including families and visitors wishing to discover the region in a different way.

The establishment distinguishes itself through an approach based on slowness and observation. Outings allow visitors to explore the surrounding area at the pace of the animals, fostering immersion in the island's landscapes, between agricultural areas, rural paths and protected spaces.

Professional guidance and a respectful approach

The activities offered by Les Sabots Nomades are led by Léa, an equestrian tourism guide. Her background is based on solid experience with equines, enriched by a specialization in mules and hinnies, animals adapted to traction and riding activities.

The program emphasizes respect for the animal, participant safety, and the quality of the interaction. Each outing is designed to foster a better understanding of animal behavior, their role, and their specific characteristics.

This approach is part of a desire to offer a responsible equestrian activity, where animal welfare is taken into account and where interactions take place in calm and observation.

Horse-drawn carriage rides to discover the area in a different way

Horse-drawn carriage rides are one of the main activities offered by Les Sabots Nomades. Lasting approximately 30 minutes, they allow you to discover the area around the farm at the pace of the mule, in a natural setting typical of the island of Oléron.

Along the way, participants can observe different animals, including residents with special stories: retired animals, rescued animals, or animals from rescue programs. This aspect adds extra interest to the visit, giving meaning to the discovery.

The horse-drawn carriage ride is suitable for families, children, and those wanting a first experience with horses. No special skills are required, but appropriate clothing is necessary, including closed-toe shoes.

Please note that the horse-drawn carriage is not accessible to people with reduced mobility and may not be suitable for people suffering from back pain.

An experience focused on the local produce of Oléron

Beyond equestrian activities, Les Sabots Nomades promotes the local culture of the island of Oléron. Visitors experience a rural environment where agricultural practices, landscapes, and local traditions are still very much alive.

This immersive experience allows you to discover a more authentic side of the region, far from the most frequented tourist areas. The pace of the walks encourages observation of the landscapes, local cultures, and the island's unique biodiversity.

The activity is thus part of a local tourism offering that prioritizes proximity, exchange and simplicity.

What to discover around Saint-Georges-d'Oléron within a 30 km radius

Around Saint-Georges-d'Oléron, there are many discoveries to complement a visit to Sabots Nomades, particularly in terms of hiking, landscapes and local heritage.

Hiking enthusiasts can explore the many trails on the Île d'Oléron, winding through pine forests, marshes, and along the coastline. The walking and cycling routes offer opportunities to discover diverse natural landscapes, with views of the ocean and salt marshes.

The nearby beaches, such as those on the west coast, offer open landscapes ideal for walking. The marsh areas, meanwhile, provide opportunities to observe specific wildlife, particularly birds.

Visitors can also explore typical villages such as Domino, Chaucre, and Boyardville, with their low houses, narrow streets, and small harbors. The island's local markets offer the opportunity to meet local producers selling regional products: oysters, salt, pineau, and seasonal vegetables.

Within 30 km, it is possible to visit sites of interest such as the Chassiron Lighthouse, offering a panorama of the ocean, or the oyster ports where the traditional activity is still visible.

The rivers and channels that cross the marshes complete these landscapes, offering calm places conducive to discovery and relaxation.

Thus, a stay in Saint-Georges-d'Oléron allows you to combine an equestrian activity with a complete exploration of the island of Oléron, between nature, local produce and heritage.

A lovely farm to visit with very friendly animals and suitable enclosures for them. The two ladies who greeted us were very kind and offered us a free bottle of water given the heat. A short quiz was available throughout our visit. Thank you so much!

A setting that respects the needs of all the animals, and you can immediately see that they're all very happy and content. I was with three teenagers aged 16-17, and we toured the farm and participated in the donkey club activities with Bérénice, who is lovely and whose deep commitment to the well-being of all her residents is evident. Everyone had a wonderful time; it was fantastic. Thank you again for your hospitality.
