The Jules Gautret Cellars The Charente Maritime producers in Saint-Sulpice-de-Royan

The Cellar Jules Gautret in Saint-Sulpice-de-Royan is a center for the production and aging of Pineau des Charentes. It is located close to Royan, on the route of the Train des Mouettes which runs along the Seudre estuary, departing from Saujon.

It welcomes you all year round from Monday to Saturday to help you discover the world of our pineaux through its cellars through a wine tourism route. You will be able to discover and taste our wines, pineaux and cognacs with one of our specialists and taste the oldest and most majestic of our beverages.

Each year, our cellar receives an average of 5,500 tons of red and white grapes. It vinifies the grape juice brought by several hundred winegrowers who are members of our cooperative. The harvest reception area is located in front of the building. Inside, the space reserved for pressing contains six pneumatic presses connected, by an extraordinary set of pipes, to different stainless steel vats. Outside the building, tall steel vats rise thirteen meters high. They are intended for aging wines for the production of cognac.

The Pineau aging area contains gigantic oak barrels circled in blue. The Cellar Jules Gautret holds the largest barrel of pineau in the two Charentes with a storage capacity of 76,000 litres.

A little further on, another room houses the aging barrels of old pineaux. The liqueur wines spend at least 24 months in the large volume barrels and then are transferred to these oak barrels. The "paradise" contains 351 barrels of 400 liters of Pineau , the oldest of which date from 1995.
