    • THE "BATEAU PHARE" HAS BEEN A PARADISE OF CUTLERY TRADITION SINCE 1992

For 30 years now, the Bateau Phare has been offering a wide selection of closing and straight knives. French production, with its diversity and history, first and foremost. But also knives from all over the world: Japan, USA, Spain, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Scandinavia and many others.

Whether you're looking for folding knives or straight knives, hobby knives or work knives, you'll benefit from the choice offered by our extensive range and genuine advice.

      Cutlery in Saint-Martin-de-Ré
      31 RUE DE SULLY 17410 SAINT-MARTIN-DE-RÉ

Close to the church of Saint-Martin-de-Ré, Le Bateau Phare is unlike any other store on the busy rue de Sully.

"Le Bateau Phare" is a very special place, in stark contrast (so to speak) to the other shops on rue de Sully. And the first surprise is the store itself, a former pharmacy whose woodwork and apothecary jars, still on their shelves, can still be appreciated. But that's where the allusion to pharmacopoeia ends. For everywhere, there are... knives! There are so many of them that you can't see them all at a glance. There are simple and sculpted ones, small ones with colorful handles that look harmless, and larger ones that look menacing. Pocket knives, table knives, kitchen knives or sailors' knives, from the simple opinel to handcrafted creations, it's impossible not to find a knife to suit your needs in this Ali Baba's cave!

WELCOME TO THE SMALL WORLD OF SYLVIE AND LUC DE LA TRANCHADE

When he took over the family store in 1992, Luc de la Tranchade didn't hesitate for long: he would become a knifemaker, like a reminiscence of his childhood passion. Luc comes from a generation where having a knife in your pocket was commonplace. Between fishing trips, mushroom picking and trips into the pine forests, young people were all little "MacGyvers". And so, in 1992, "Le Bateau Phare" was born. A regular visitor to Thiers and Laguiole, Luc de la Tranchade is interested in the whole spectrum of cutlery and the history of these regional and neo-regional knives named after the villages where they were born. After all, selling knives is all very well, but Luc couldn't be satisfied with being an expert in his field. So, some 15 years ago, with the support of his wife Sylvie who helps out in the store, he launched his own production.

The adventure continued with knives designed by the captain of the "Bateau Phare". Thus was born the "Rétha", which quickly became a success. The "Terre-Mer" and "L'Insulaire" followed, not forgetting the remarkable "Huîtrier fermant", the world's first closing oyster knife (pardon the pun). Luc de la Tranchade's knives, crafted with respect for tradition and excellence, have earned him a place on the jury of "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" in the very special field of cutlery.

Charming, very sharp boutique. Passionate sellers. Beautiful Damascus blade knives. For my part, I acquired a magnificent model of a luxury sailboat. Magnificent piece.

Excellent welcome and sound advice. Very beautiful cutlery with beautiful woodwork in this beautiful village of St Martin de Ré. There is a very good choice of very beautiful knives, I loved it. I was won over and discovered a new Vendée cutler SNARD. The welcome, knowledge and business side of Monsieur and Madame de la Tranchade are just perfect. I highly recommend and will return on my next visit. Thank you both and see you soon Sebastian
