Le Château d'Oléron

The Château d'Oléron, located in the extreme south-east, is the “oyster capital”. Former stronghold, it retains the remains of fortifications and a citadel. South-west of the island of Saint Trojan-les-Bains, a seaside resort, has pleasant sandy beaches and a 2000 hectare maritime pine forest. The villas at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century bring a special charm. The omnipresent mimosa in the town gives rise to a party in February. A thalassotherapy center receives many curists. Grand Village Plage just like Dolus d'Oléron can boast of the most beautiful beaches on the island, and of unmissable sites such as the Port des Salines with its salt marshes and its ecomuseum and the Bird Marsh, a must-see for all lovers of nature.
