Sentier du littoral de Royan, Saint-Palais et la Côte Sauvage Nature Reserves in Royan

Many trails run along the Atlantic coast of Brittany to Spain. These trails are also part of the Chemins de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. In Charente Maritime, the Sentier du Littoral follows the Côte Sauvage from Royan to La Rochelle. Certain portions also take the name of "Customs trail", in reference to the custom of customs officers to survey the coast, to flush out possible smugglers, wanting to evade the payment of customs taxes on goods.

The coastal path is an easy, family walk that runs along long beaches, takes you through pine forests and offers you beautiful views of the ocean. On the road, do not miss to admire the Charente maritime heritage, in particular the many lighthouses and squares.
