    • LUPIN'S STOPOVER – SAINT-NAZAIRE-SUR-CHARENTE – CHARENTE-MARITIME

The restaurant L'Escale de Lupin, located in Saint-Nazaire-sur-Charente in the Charente-Maritime region, embraces a culinary approach focused on local produce, Charente gastronomy, and the authenticity of a region nestled between the river and the ocean. Situated near Rochefort and Île Madame, the establishment benefits from an environment steeped in maritime history and the soothing presence of the Charente River. Led since 2019 by award-winning chef Pascal Hue, it emphasizes the transmission of knowledge, expertise, and a rigorous approach to cuisine.

The setting and history of the place

The restaurant faces the Royal Fountain, an iconic example of the achievements undertaken under Louis XIV, associated with the work of Vauban. This location offers an open panorama of the Charente landscape, between the estuary and farmland. The bright dining room overlooks the river, while the terrace allows guests to observe the changing landscape with the tides. This setting helps to situate L'Escale de Lupin in a peaceful environment where nature enhances the culinary experience.

      Cooking and culinary orientation

Under the direction of Pascal Hue, a former Michelin-starred chef, sous-chef to Alain Ducasse, and disciple of Escoffier, the restaurant's cuisine is based on a rigorous selection of fresh, seasonal produce, sourced primarily from local producers. Charente's land and sea products form the heart of the culinary creations, with an emphasis on precision, technical mastery, and the pursuit of balance in flavor combinations.

In addition to the restaurant, the chef offers cooking classes designed to share expertise and teaching methods, as well as in-home cooking classes. This option allows individuals to discover professional techniques directly in their own environment, practicing recipes tailored to each person's needs.

These activities complement the desire to promote fine cuisine through expert techniques and products sourced from local producers. They demonstrate an approach focused on quality, authenticity, and attention to ingredients.

      Catering services and events

L'Escale de Lupin also offers catering services for weddings, seminars, birthdays, and corporate events. The team supports these events by creating menus tailored to the specific constraints and expectations of each project. The restaurant can be reserved for private family or business gatherings.

The establishment also hosts paintings by Patrick Duval, which bring an artistic dimension to the setting, as well as a dog-friendly welcome for visitors accompanied by their pets.

What to discover within a 30km radius of Lupin's Stopover

Within a 30 km radius, numerous sites of interest, natural landscapes, and Charente villages are easily accessible. The town of Rochefort is a central hub for exploration, boasting the Royal Rope Factory, the Hermione frigate, the Art and History Museums, and the quays along the Charente River. The markets of Rochefort, Fouras, and Port-des-Barques showcase the work of small producers, offering a perfect opportunity to discover local products.

Hikers will find several routes leading to Île Madame, traditional fishing huts on stilts, marshes, and oyster beds. A few kilometers away, Fouras-les-Bains offers beaches, a fort, and views of Île d'Aix. Further north, paths lead to the fortified village of Brouage, known for its architecture and artisan workshops. The towns of Soubise and Échillais, as well as the protected areas of the Moëze marsh, offer further opportunities for exploration, combining natural heritage with tranquil landscapes.

These discoveries, accessible from L'Escale de Lupin, allow you to understand a territory rich in nature, history, gastronomy and encounters with local people.

First visit, Saturday evening, Menu Entree, Plat et dessert for 39 Euros, that was really good, only a liitle bit more time to enjoy between the dishes would be great. Or otherwise just ask the guest, if they want a little delay or no delay between the dishes. Everything else was awesome. See you soon.
