    • Port-des-Barques, located on the Charente river left bank, is a quiet market-village and a traditional fishermen and oyster farming place. It’s a peninsula listed as a nature site where nature and the tides set the tone. Take a walk to see the fishing huts “Les carrelets”, an incredible row of wooden pontoons, then head to the oyster farm’s beds and huts to savour oysters straight from their basins, a joyful experience. The Ecomuseum houses within its walls the history of the growth of oysters and mussels.

This seaside resort is the place to try your hand at water sports or go for a dip whenever you like in a sea water pool.

From the end of the peninsula, escape whilst the tide is out and explore the smallest and wildest island in the Charente-Maritime, Madame Island. Explore the flora, fauna and monuments all over the island.

Welcome to the tourist office. Our friendly team of knowledgeable staff can provide information and advice on a wide range of subjects to help you plan your trip and to share tips to discover Rochefort Ocean.
