Go to Madame Island

Now that you're facing this small piece of land in the heart of the ocean, the question is how to get there and visit it. Unfortunately, the timing isn't up to you, as the tides dictate the schedule and only open the passage through the channel at Port des Barques at low tide. You'll therefore need to be patient to discover this one-kilometer-long path of pebbles and sand, which you can explore on foot, by bicycle, horse-drawn carriage, or car.

On Île Madame, you can visit the island's fort with " Les Cabanes de l'Estuaire-Écomusée de Port-des-Barques, " which explains the island's history and architecture. Depending on the tide, it's even possible to visit them after nightfall, an unforgettable experience where the night light offers a new perspective of the island. Finally, don't miss the aquaculture farm, the only one on the island, which produces Charente-Maritime specialties such as oysters, clams, samphire, and salt. Discover the farm and end with a gourmet break in a beautiful setting.
