Photographing sharks at the La Rochelle Aquarium

The La Rochelle Aquarium is one of the most beautiful in Europe. The variety of species on display and the different aquatic worlds are exceptional. If you want to take underwater photos without getting wet, this is THE place to go. Photos are allowed without flash for the animals' well-being. But if you're patient, some amazing animal photos await you. It's also a very fun museum, popular with children. There's something for the whole family.

Serial squares in the mouth of the Gironde

Carrelets are part of the Charente maritime heritage, but you will also find them on the banks of the rivers. Those which line the Charente Estuary or the Mouth of the Gironde are very beautiful. They are witnesses, still alive for some, of the economic wealth of the region. The largest concentration of carrelets is found in Meschers-sur-Gironde. Placed along the coast, they adorn the white limestone cliff. They are particularly well maintained and still in operation. You will take very authentic photos there.

Low angle view of the lighthouses of Charente-Maritime

While lighthouses are typical buildings in Charente-Maritime, they represent a little-known maritime heritage. Not all of them are open to visitors, but if you have the opportunity, don't hesitate to climb one of them. The view from the top of these giant guardians of the ocean is well worth the physical effort of climbing these endless stairs... which sometimes even allow you to take some amazing interior shots! For those that are not accessible, the low-angle photos are technically interesting.

Bird photography in the natural sites of Charente

Charente-Maritime is located on the migratory route of many bird species. During migration periods, early evening is a time when you can surprise this multitude of birds landing on the Charente waters. This magical moment, with the sunset as a backdrop, is one of the dream shots of all photography and birdwatching enthusiasts. Even outside this season, the Charente Estuary, the Gironde Mouth, the Arvert Peninsula and the many salt marshes that run along the Charente Coast are favorite sites for wildlife photographers.
