On the island of Oléron, the Marais aux Oiseaux in Dolus-d'Oléron is a refuge for wild birds. Some wounded spend a convalescent stay there before returning to their natural environment. Others, too crippled to survive alone, spend quiet days there. A colony of herons also benefits from this place of reception and feeding, thus allowing scientists and volunteers of association of protection of birds to count them, to observe the nesting to learn more about the birds, and to follow the evolution of the colony over the years. The site therefore brings together a diverse and unusual ornithological fauna. The visit is fun and will appeal to the whole family.
