Rivedoux-Plage is the first town you come across when you arrive on the Île de Ré after crossing the famous bridge that connects it to the mainland. This charming village offers an attractive combination of heritage, beaches and activities, making it a popular destination for holidaymakers.

HISTORY

Rivedoux-Plage is strategically located on the east coast of the Île de Ré, offering breathtaking views of the Pertuis Breton to the north and the Pertuis d'Antioche (with La Rochelle and the Île d'Aix) to the south. Although today a popular tourist destination , Rivedoux evolved from a former hamlet attached to Sainte-Marie-de-Ré to become a commune in its own right in 1928. Its name "Rivedoux" is said to come from its position between two gently curving "rives". The village is characterized by its typical white houses with green shutters, its flowery alleys and its peaceful atmosphere.

Two Beaches, Two Atmospheres

Rivedoux-Plage has the particularity of having two distinct seafronts, each offering a different atmosphere:

• North Beach: Facing the Pertuis Breton, this beach is ideal for families with its calm waters and vast stretches of fine sand. It is a great place to relax, swim and practice more relaxed water sports such as paddleboarding and kayaking. It is also on this coast that you will find many oyster farms, the pride of local oyster producers.
• South Beach: Wilder and often more exposed to the wind, this beach is a paradise for lovers of water sports like kitesurfing and windsurfing. Its unspoiled dunes and ocean views also make it a popular place for walking.
