Via Nieul-sur-Mer, cross the shellfish farming hamlet of Lauzières and its former salt marshes now used for refining oysters.
Another option is to go through L'Houmeau and follow the coastline to the parking area where you can leave your car and continue on foot towards the port. At any time of day, hikers, cyclists, and joggers share this safe path that runs along the ocean. The view is breathtaking, overlooking the Pertuis Breton strait between the Île de Ré and the Bay of Aiguillon, opening onto the Vendée region and Brittany on the horizon.

The archives even reveal an ordinance of July 16, 1608, which established the "rights to be levied"—or taxes to be collected—on chickens, calves, wine, and salt. Today, this port continues its tradition of artisanal fishing and oyster farming.
