Rochefort was born from the desire of the Sun King to build "the most beautiful arsenal in the kingdom" there in 1666.

Nestled in a bend of the Charente River, it has a unique history, that of having been a royal arsenal city. It exudes a scent of travel, adventure, and exoticism, just like in the days of great maritime exploration.

Escape to the paths of Charente on foot or by bike in the middle of unspoiled nature to the Transporter Bridge (the last in France). A few hundred meters from the bridge, you enter the lagoon station, a favorite stopover for many migratory birds.
