Our story

At the height of the ^19th century, ambassadors of the French Empire exported their lifestyle to the four corners of the world, like Albert Bodard, explorer and French ambassador. He frequently traveled to his residences in Mexico, Iran, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Indonesia, and China. Despite a life rich in adventure, political intrigue, travel, and epicureanism, Albert Bodard always considered La Rochelle "his home."

Bodard Bar

The bar at the Maison des Ambassadeurs recreates the festive atmosphere where Albert Bodard used to entertain around the large period fireplace. The modern decor, with its 1950s touches, is punctuated with objects collected from around the world that tell the story of Ambassador Bodard and his adventures, from the New World to the Far East.

Guests and locals mingle in a festive and welcoming atmosphere, enjoying afternoon tea or evening drinks. A fine selection of wines and local products showcases La Rochelle's heritage, all complemented by essential international dishes. Seasonal cocktails inspired by travels around the world make the bar a place where all ages meet.

The Bodard Bar welcomes you every day from 12pm to 11pm.
