Charente-Maritime is a very popular destination for swimming and sea lovers. With its 90 beaches between La Rochelle and Talmont-sur-Gironde, sunbathing and refreshing waves on the Atlantic coast are much appreciated by holidaymakers. Lay your towel down south of Angoulins on the Grande Plage de Châtelaillon, a 2km stretch of sand perfect for family outings. Head to Boyardville Beach, one of the most beautiful stretches of fine sand on the Île d'Oléron. At the edge of the Saumonard forest, enjoy an unobstructed view of Fort Boyard and the Île d'Aix, and swim safely on a beach supervised all summer long. Enjoy shore fishing, walks, and swimming – take advantage of the tides to choose your activity. The unique feature? You can reach it by miniature train, a fun and easy way to get around.

In Meschers-sur-Gironde, the Grande Plage de Suzac is a favorite, nestled in a wide cove surrounded by pine forests: the Pointe de Suzac. Easily accessible from the road to Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, it offers a unique landscape with its limestone cliffs. Enjoy a beautiful, unspoiled 600-meter beach, supervised in summer, where a charming restaurant overlooks the sea.

Enjoy sunbathing in complete privacy on Couny Beach in Saint-Clément-des-Baleines, a stretch of unspoiled beach between Conche-des-Baleines and Petit Bec Beach. Located at the tip of Île de Ré, it faces the Vendée region. However, please swim with caution, as there are no lifeguards on duty.

Defined as one of the most beautiful beaches on the Île de Ré, Trousse Chemise Beach offers a truly enchanting experience with its dunes sloping down to the sea and the adjacent small wood. The long stretches of fine sand are ideal for playing, strolling, or simply relaxing and soaking up the sun.

Charente-Maritime, beaches renowned for water sports

Beaches aren't just for sunbathing. Take advantage of an outdoor escape to try new activities on the sand or in the sea.

Pontaillac Beach in Royan is the ideal destination for surfing, bodyboarding, or windsurfing. Afterwards , watersports enthusiasts can relax in one of the many restaurants, ice cream parlors, and cafes located facing the sea, offering a prime view of the beautiful Pontaillac Beach.

The Côte Sauvage of La Tremblade offers around twenty kilometers of delightful beaches, where surfing and bodyboarding are the most popular activities. Bordered by a cycle path along the Coubre forest, it's easy to escape into a colorful setting where the Coubre lighthouse overlooks the tip of this large, unspoiled beach.

Located on the Île de Ré, Plage des Grenette is a popular spot for surfing and bodyboarding. It's less pleasant for swimming due to the many pebbles and rocks at low tide.

On the Île d'Oléron, Vert Bois Beach is ideal for surfing. Stretching for several kilometers to Saint-Trojan Beach, it offers a landscape between dunes and ocean where the waves delight surfers. There's a small parking lot nearby, but it's best to get there by bike in the summer.
