The Coubre State Forest is the largest forest in the department, extending over approximately 5,000 hectares from Ronce-les-Bains to the La Coubre lighthouse. Mainly composed of maritime pines and holm oaks, it plays a crucial role in protecting coastal dunes against erosion and as such benefits from multiple classifications (Natura 2000, ENS, ZNIEFF).

Rich in a varied fauna including deer, roe deer, wild boar and various species of insects and birds, it is also home to flora specific to the dunes and undergrowth. Beyond its ecological and historical importance – it was created to fix the sands and has been the scene of events linked to local history –, the Coubre forest is a popular place for outdoor activities, offering numerous hiking trails and more than 25 kilometers of cycle paths (including the Vélodyssée), opportunities for observing wildlife, and the visit of the Phare de La Coubre with a panoramic view of this remarkable natural space. Nearby, you will also find the unmissable Zoo de La Palmyre, one of the largest zoos in France, adding a major attraction to this region rich in biodiversity and leisure.
