Located at the mouth of the Gironde estuary, 7km from the coast, the Cordouan lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in Europe. Majestic lighthouse, still in operation, it is the only lighthouse at sea open to visitors. At the top of the 311 steps of this historic monument, listed in 1862, you can admire a breathtaking panorama of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde estuary.
Accessible by boat from Royan after an hour's journey, you can visit Cordouan from April to October.
